Why
are we doing this?
Over the years we have worked extensively with Renesas
SuperH processors. Recently we have seen an increase
in demand for embedded Linux but we have also recognised
that it is difficult to get started. This website has
been created to make it easy to get started with embedded
Linux on the Renesas range of development boards.
Why
use embedded Linux?
There are many reasons to choose embedded Linux. These
include; no runtime license costs, huge number of applications
and drivers, standard POSIX APIs etc.
Why
use this SHLinux distribution?
If you are using one of the supported Renesas development
boards, the SHLinux distribution is the quickest and
cheapest way of getting started. There are other distributions
that have more features but they will not contain the
Renesas board-specific features of SHLinux (such as
pre-built binaries, bootloaders, drivers and documentation).
Why
don't you support all the features
of my Renesas development board?
This website is provided by MPC Data as our contribution
to the Linux community. However we are a commercial
company and have to remain financially sound. For this
reason there are many things we would like to add, but
do not have the resources for at the moment. As resources
become available, then more features will be added.
If there is a particular feature that your project needs,
then we will be happy to discuss your requirements.
